Who we are
Plainspoken Tech is a small, independent publisher of large-print, step-by-step technology guides for older adults and the families who help them. Our series, Plainspoken Tech for Seniors, covers AI assistants, scams, the iPhone, the iPad and Android phones.
The company behind the website and the books is Plainspoken Tech Pty Ltd (ACN 702 652 186), registered in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. Most of our readers are in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, so our guides use US spelling and include advice for each of those countries where it matters.
About Graham Tulley
Graham Tulley is the pen name used for the series. The person behind it repairs laptops and computers for everyday customers. The same questions come up again and again, and the answers are usually simple once someone explains them calmly and without jargon. That’s what these books set out to do: give every reader the patient, honest help you’d get from a good technician sitting beside you.
Why these books exist
Phones, tablets and AI tools can make life easier: video calls with the grandchildren, photos, maps, reminders, reading. But the menus change every year, the text is small, and scammers aim squarely at people who are still finding their feet. Most tech books either assume you already know the basics or talk down to you. We try to do neither.
How we write and check our guides
- Plain English. Short sentences, one idea at a time, and every tech word explained the first time it appears.
- Step by step. Numbered steps that tell you what you’ll see on the screen, with a note where the words may be slightly different on your model.
- Checked against official sources. Device steps are checked against Apple, Google and Samsung’s own help pages. Scam advice follows official guidance from agencies such as the FTC, the FBI, Scamwatch and the UK’s Report Fraud service. Articles list the sources we checked.
- AI tools, human responsibility. We use AI tools to help with research and first drafts. A person reviews, edits and checks every book and article before it’s published, and takes responsibility for it.
- Kept up to date. Phones and tablets change every year. When a big update changes how things work, we update the book and the articles and show the date on every article.
- Independent. We aren’t paid by Apple, Google, Samsung, Microsoft, OpenAI or anyone else, and we don’t accept payment to recommend products. We earn money when you buy one of our own books.
